This is the Chinese Dragon costume we made for out girl scouts thinking day presentation.
Supplies can be found at Papermart: http://www.papermart.com/HOME?origin=...
You will need:
Metallic decorative shreads
3 rectangle disposable tablecloths
glitter and sequins
cardboard boxes and a box cutter
Hot Glue Gun and Glue sticks
Duct tape and carpet tape
Gold acrylic spray paint
Rubber ball (to cut in half for eyes)
scissors
To make the costume we cut up cardboard boxes to build the head and covered it with corrugated paper (cut wavy with scissors and overlapped to look like scales)and crepe paper (cut in square and wrapped on the end of a pencil and glued down so it was fluffy). The eyes are a rubber ball cut in half. We also added glitter, sequins and metallic decor shreds.
The long body and tail were made by sewing 3 long rectangle plastic table cloths together with a sewing machine using a long zig-zag stitch. Then we sewed gussets to slide pipe insulation poles in that supported the dragon when it was being preformed with. I cut a large scallop design on a file folder and used it as a stencil to spray paint scales on the table cloth. Use acrylic spray paint because regular spray paint might damage the plastic table cloth.
To attach the long table cloth potion to the head we reinforced the edge of the table cloth end with duct tape then used carpet tape (a super sticky double sided tape) to attach the reinforced edge to the box. See pictures on my blog for more details. It will be posted on 3/10/14 http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com...
This was a fun project to make and looked terrific!
